Families across British Columbia will have an opportunity to celebrate sport in BC as well as a historic BC Lions 2011 championship season as the Grey Cup tours the province, announced Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and Dennis Skulsky, BC Lions president and CEO.
From Sunday, January 29th to Saturday, February 4th, the Grey Cup along with a number of current Lions players will make more than 20 stops in 16 communities across the province. Families, football fans and sports history buffs will have a chance to see the cup up close, take a photo, and meet some of their favourite players including quarterback Travis Lulay, receiver Geroy Simon and kicker Paul McCallum. Tour participants are encouraged to share their photos by uploading them to YourCup.ca.
Hon. Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development:
“The Grey Cup win by the BC Lions reminds all of us, that through sport we can rise above any challenge, and through determination, find the champion inside each of us. That’s why British Columbians rally behind the team – they embodied our collective spirit as hardworking, resilient winners who rebounded from losses in their first five games to become league champions.”
Dennis Skulsky, President and CEO of the BC Lions:
“The Grey Cup has long been known as the ‘people’s cup’ and it is with tremendous pride that we embark on this province-wide tour. As six-time Grey Cup champions coming off an emotional title win at home for the second time in franchise history, this tour celebrates what the BC Lions value most, the support of fans across this great province. The BC Lions are grateful for the participation of the Province of British Columbia in helping to make this tour possible.”
