DONALD, B.C. - Two people walked away from a crash that sent the cab of their truck plunging almost 60 metres off the side of a southeastern B.C. bridge.

RCMP Sgt. Troy Durand in Golden, B.C., confirmed the crash occurred early Wednesday morning on the Donald Bridge, 27 kilometres northwest of the community.

He says a semi-trailer lost control on the bridge, separated from its trailer and the cab careened into the Columbia River below, landing on its wheels.

An oncoming tractor-trailer then rammed the wreckage remaining on the bridge.

Durand said two people in the cab of the first vehicle were able to climb out and wade to shore, while the driver of the second rig also walked away with minor injuries.

A 150-kilometre stretch of Highway 1 between Golden and Revelstoke was closed for several hours while crews cleared away the debris and repaired the bridge.
